MORE GUESTS ADDED TO SILICON 2007!

You guys are in for even more surprises this year! You thought our guest list rocked already? You haven't even seen the whole thing yet :-) We're working hard on the website, updating it on a daily basis. right now I have a trio of cool Horror/Film guests that are joining SiliCon this year. We feel very lucky to have them on board!

BIANCA BARNETT

Bianca Barnett was born in Texas, the summer of 1981. Her parents founded Lunar Models, which specialized in sci/fi, dinosaurs and famous monster model kits. This afforded her the opportunity to meet icons of the genre and sparked her passion for the fantasy of film. Her personal obsession with horror films occurred after a fateful trip to Bob Burns’ home in Burbank, California to view decades of film memorabilia. She knew right then and there she had to be in pictures!

After moving to Hollywood, Bianca teamed up with Ramzi Abed for the critically acclaimed ‘Black Dahlia Movie’, playing dual roles- the naïve “Rose” and also the mutilated corpse left abandoned in a field. This would be the first time she met FX wiz, Jason Barnett, and the two quickly formed a bond over their shared love of Halloween, horror and movie magic.

She collaborated again with Mister Barnett for the upcoming gore fest- Albino Farm. Bianca plays the hideously mutated Pig-Bitch- a creature dead set on maiming anyone who crosses her territory with a rusty hay hook.
Bianca has a starring role in Ramzi Abed’s upcoming ‘Spiral State’ as well as several horror films in the near future.

JASON BARNETT

Jason Barnett grew up watching monster movies, so it didn’t take the youngster long to discover the magic of special effects make-up. After graduating High school, Barnett ventured to Hollywood to pursue his love for creating monsters and fantasy creatures. He soon found work on such low budget films as Howling VI: Freaks and HBO’s Tales From the Crypt.

In 1998, Barnett was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the science fiction series Babylon 5 and later reached higher status with work at Rick Baker’s company on the Academy Award winning make-up for “The Grinch.” “Rick Baker’s company is the top make-up effects house and it was a great experience working along side so many talented artists,” says Barnett.

Jason Barnett’s company, Industrial Monsters & Props/IMP FX, recently wrapped FX work on ALBINO FARM. Barnett’s crew created a full family of freaks including the lead monster known as the Pig-Bitch.

JED ROWEN

Jed Rowen has had credited parts in nearly fifty films. Joe Castro's Terror Toons 1.5 is definitely one of Jed's more unique projects as he played both the father and the mother in the movie!!! Jed has also had roles in ACTS OF VIOLENCE with Ron Perlman; NAKED RUN with Charles Durning; THE BONEYARD COLLECTION with George Kennedy; THE GHASTLY LOVE OF JOHNNY X with Kevin McCarthy; and SAWBLADE with Reggie Bannister. Jed is thrilled to be a part of SiliCon 2007.

SiliCon's Fashion Show and More!!!

SiliCon is hosting it's first ever Fashion Show! Join us Sunday for an anime fan's dream, a J-Rock themed Kei/Lolita Fashion Show. We have several great designers bringing us some fabulous and original outfits just to show to you, the fans! There will be music, lights, runway models, and of course great looking clothes. We wanted to really take this event in a direction not seen at Silicon before. J-Rock/Kei fashion is an underground sensation in Japan and other Pac Rim countries. Taking what they like from punk, anime, goth, and high fashion looks the clothes are an outrageous form of self expression. Join us Sunday for this great event, you won't want to miss it! A confirmed list of designers will be posted soon...we can't spill ALL of our surprises at once

We also want to welcome Joe Flynn and his co-host Priscilla from the "Joe Flynn Show" our local homage to all those great late night horror hosts. Joe and Priscilla put out a truly honest program looking at horror and related genre films and events. There love for all that is scary is obvious from the start and you can't help but feel like you've known them forever...Joe is like your crazy Uncle that your Mom and Dad think is a bad influence, but you like him anyways because he is just too COOL, and Priscilla is the perfect girl next door who is even more awesome because she digs horror films! Together these two will have you on the floor look for them around SiliCon and you might even see them helping out with some of our late night programming.

We're looking forward to seeing you all there!

LOTS OF NEW STUFF!!!

Hello Everyone! We have a ton of stuff to talk about. New guests, event updates, and cool things to do this weekend. First off we have a couple of new guests to announce;

JEFF JOHNSON

Jeff has been working in the VFX & CGI industry since moving from metro Detroit nearly 10 years ago. He's been through the gauntlet, starting in tech support and moving through rotoscoping, compositing, into lighting & 3D. His screen credits include "Peter Jackson's King Kong", "Matrix Revolutions, "Star Wars Episode 3", "LOTR - The Two Towers", "Terminator 3", "Hollow Man" at companies like Tippett Studio, Industrial Light & Magic, and Weta Digital. His most recent project was in feature animation on "Shrek the Third" at PDI/Dreamworks Animation, where he's currently at work on "Madagascar 2". He's also done his share of independent short filmmaking and playing music at loud levels. Jeff included a complete filmography, but it was too long to print! Let's just say the guys has worked on a TON of great stuff!

BARBARA HAMBLY

Next up we are glad to announce that award winning author Barbara Hambly WILL be able to join us at SiliCon 2007 after all! We are super-stoked to have Barbara appear at this years show. The best selling sci-fi fantasy author of both Star Wars and Star Trek novelizations, The Windrose Chronicles, and The Darwath Trilogy...just to name a few! She has been the President of the Science Fiction Writers of America (1994-1996), has been a Locus award winner, and a multiple Nebula award nominee. She has admitted to not being good with titles for books (perhaps The Quirinal Hill Affair would not be out of print today if her original title idea, The Baby Eaters, had stuck). Barbara enjoys many non-writing hobbies, including karate (she holds a black belt in Shotokan Karate), dancing, painting, historical and fantasy costuming (something she's enjoyed since high school), and tarot card reading. I don't know if she's still involved, but being a true fangirl at heart she was once a memeber of the SCA and has been known to attend Renaissance Festivals.

We have confirmed J-Rock Karaoke, the band Swingjig will be playing up on the party floor, the very popular Comics Jam will be back for it's second year, The Charity Auction will be held on Sunday Oct. 7th, and more movies have just been added!!! Keep checking back for more info.

*** FUNKY SOLE RETURNS! EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT!!! ***
Funky Sole, LA’s Longest Running Deep Funk and Raw
Soul Dance Party, Changes Venues. Funky Sole, the
Saturday-night weekly that ran for six years at the
recently closed Star Shoes nightclub on Hollywood
Boulevard, has run a few blocks to the south.
Beginning on Saturday, July 28th, DJs Music Man Miles
(promoter of the 10 year running Root Down weekly at
Little Temple and leader of funk band Breakestra) and
Egon (general manager and a&r for indie hip hop
powerhouse Stones Throw Records) bring their unique
blend of the rarest, rawest most soulful music this
side of James Brown to Jimmy's Lounge (formerly el
Centro) @6202 Santa Monica blvd at El Centro (1 block
east of Vine) & also just around the corner from the
bomb tacos at Cactus 1 block down on vine & open till
3.... STILL FREE! HUH? What? Jimmys is a cozy,Kool
clean but not uptight lounge that will complement the
sounds and sights of funky sole, not to mention a good
size dancefloor and big patio to kick it in.. Guests
should expect the same brand of music that the two
brought to the Cahuenga Corridor – a range from Deep
Funk, soulful disco, old-school (that would be
pre-1983, mind you) hip hop, afro-latin, bossa-jazz,
Bollywood club bangers and world psychedelia from as
far away as Turkey and Ethiopia. Such a mix can’t be
heard anywhere else in the city. The two plan to
follow up the re-launch party with an all star line up
for the following month. On Sat Aug.4th JROCC the
funky president comes thru to pop that corn in the
skilett for your dancin' & prancin' pleasure.make sure
to get there early to catch the $4 mojitos & to catch
DJ Clifton's (aka DJ Soft touch)impeccable selection
to maych his always impeccable style.Jesse C might
even be in the mix droppin' his always expanding
collection of African funk. On Saturday August 11th,
Jeremy Sole, of KCRW show Branches and the
long-running Afro Funke at Zanzibar in Santa Monica,
will bring his afro-latin-samba-cumbia melange ,
celebrating his 33 1/3 b-day. The special guest for
August 18th is still under wraps, but considering the
guests that the two had at Star Shoes (the likes of
Peanut Butter Wolf,Quantic,Keb Darge,DJ Shadow, DJ
Muro, Chairman Mao and their unofficial third partner
Cut Chemist), it’s sure not to disappoint. “It’s not
often in Los Angeles that a night lasts as long as
Funky Sole has,” Egon says. “We couldn’t stop bringing
this music. We just have too much of it, and it’s not
fair to keep these incredible tunes shelved at home.”
In the words of a more famous soul and - You’ve got to
give the people what they want. Even if they may be
hearing it for the first time at Funky Sole. Funky
Sole saturdays @ Jimmys Lounge 6202 Santa Monica blvd
